According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the glycemic index is “a measure of the rate at which ingested food causes the level of glucose in the blood to rise; also: a ranking of foods according to the glycemic index.”
Coconut sugar, which we use in our coconut hot cocoa mix, measures 35 on the glycemic index, making it a low glycemic index sugar.
Our coconut hot cocoa mix is vegan and dairy free, but all of our recipes are not necessarily vegan. We do offer many vegan recipes and substitution suggestions for those that aren't, to help you customize our recipes to your needs. Additionally, each recipe is labeled with dietary information, so we won’t leave you wondering if it’s vegan or something else.
We created that term and it means that while all our ingredients are not certified fair trade, they are sourced from companies that offer fair market or living wages for their employees to uphold fair trade standards.
Refined sugar is a newer term and thus has a lot of different definitions. We understand refined sugar to be highly processed sugar that has removed the natural colorings, flavorings and nutrients associated with its raw form and it also tends to be higher on the glycemic index. That’s why our foods and recipes are free of refined sugar.
Don’t worry, it happens. Because of the simplicity of our ingredients and the fact that we don't add "anti-clumping agents" our hot cocoa can stick together. Just give the pouch or packet a good shake before opening and you should be all set. Any small remaining clumps should dissolve in hot water.
No, the health information on our website and social media pages are opinions and cultivated from personal experiences. You should consult with your doctor or medical professional before trying anything new.
Our hot cocoa is made from natural ingredients without any preservatives and because of that, there are natural variations that can occur. Everything, like the amount of rain water and sunlight our crops get, affects their taste and look, so it's only natural that not every batch would be the exactly same.
Those shavings are our ground vanilla. Sometimes the larger shavings of the vanilla bean don't dissolve completely and can sit at the bottom of your drink.
